TRANSCEND-XR is a collaborative project funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme (Grant Agreement No. 101214413). It brings together 15 partners from 12 countries to improve the quality of life for adolescent and young adult testicular cancer survivors and to set new standards for digital health in cancer survivorship.
Many survivors experience ongoing physical, emotional, and social challenges long after treatment ends, yet support systems often fall short. TRANSCEND-XR addresses this gap through an innovative extended reality (XR) intervention - co-created with survivors - that educates, empowers, and supports them in navigating life after cancer.

Testicular cancer is one of the most treatable cancers, especially among young men aged 15–39. But survival is just the beginning. Many adolescents and young adults face late effects from treatment, such as fatigue, anxiety, fertility concerns, or body image issues, often without tailored support or guidance.
TRANSCEND-XR is designed to address these unmet needs by offering a testicular cancer survivorship support tool that is:
Our goal is to make recovery more informed, connected, and empowering.
Extended Reality (XR) is an umbrella term that includes technologies like Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) which are immersive digital tools that can simulate experiences, deliver training, and provide emotional support in powerful, engaging ways.
In TRANSCEND-XR, this technology is being used to:
As one of the few Horizon Europe cancer research projects using immersive technology, TRANSCEND-XR helps demonstrate the potential of extended reality in cancer care to deliver real, scalable impact.
The TRANSCEND-XR consortium consists of 15 partner organisations across 12 countries, representing leading universities, hospitals, technology firms, and research institutes.

CONNECT WITH US
TRANSCEND-XR is not just research happening about people, it’s research happening with people.
The project follows a collaborative, ethical process that includes:
Co-Creation: Working with survivors and caregivers to design the XR tool
Development: Building a usable, intuitive intervention
Testing: Evaluating in real-world clinical and home environments
Scale-Up: Sharing the results and expanding access across Europe
This is more than an app or device, it’s a new way to think about recovery.

TRANSCEND-XR is funded by the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation programme, under Grant Agreement No. 101214413.
All project activities are carried out under strict ethical standards, including GDPR compliance and informed consent protocols. Our commitment is to put people, especially survivors, at the centre of every decision we make.
